AVOID The 12 SETS SATURATION PATROLS FOR THIS WEEKEND
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17TH AND SATURDAY 18TH
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY - SEPTEMBER 17th, 2010
Drunk drivers are the targets of a series of scattered saturation patrols and a sobriety checkpoint this weekend as Avoid the 12 plans enforcement events.
Friday night will see DUI saturation patrols in Buellton, Goleta, Lompoc, Santa Maria and Solvang. Fourteen officers and deputies will go out on patrol from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., said Sheriff’s Deputy Win Smith, campaign coordinator.
The Santa Barbara squad of the California Highway Patrol will be the lead agency in a multi-jurisdictional checkpoint in Isla Vista on Saturday night, to cover the UCSB move-in weekend, he stated. It will get underway at 6 p.m. and run until 2 a.m.
“Some students celebrate their return to campus with alcohol and then have the bad judgment to get into their cars,” Smith remarks. “We’re here to stop the damage they could so easily cause.”
Avoid the 12, like all 40 other similar campaigns in the state, gets its funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
